Tobias Böckermann (* 1973 in Meppen ) is a German journalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Tobias Böckermann was born in Emsland . He grew up in his hometown Meppen, where he also passed his Abitur in 1992 at the Gymnasium Marianum. He studied history, biology , politics and sociology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

He has been with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ) since 1999 , initially in the political department until 2005 and since then as a local editor at the Meppener Tagespost , where he is responsible for the city of Haren (Ems) .

For on 16 February 2007 within its NOZ-article series Faszinatur Emsland published reportage fight for each chick , dedicated to the conservation efforts around the golden plover employed in Emsland, Böckermann received the 2007 from the German Wildlife Foundation and the magazine Geo awarded journalism prize The wild Raven (special price). Tobias Böckermann has been breeding Bentheimer country sheep since 1994 and published a book about this old livestock breed in 2011.

For his entire NOZ article series Faszinatur Emsland , in which he still critically deals with the situation of flora and fauna in the region, Tobias Böckermann was to be awarded the Emsland Media Prize in 2011 alongside Sebastian Beck (Süddeutsche Zeitung). In the opinion of the Board of Trustees of the Johann Alexander Wisniewsky Foundation, however, the applications did not meet the formal requirements. Both authors did not submit their contributions themselves with official documents (completed registration form, curriculum vitae, etc.), but readers had sent in the articles. Therefore, the Board of Trustees ultimately refused to award the award - the authors were not given an opportunity to cure the criticized points. This led to a scandal, in the course of which most members of the media award jury resigned. They suspected a boycott because the contributions of both authors deal critically with the region.

In October 2016, Böckermann was nominated for the journalist award "Klartext für Wolfe" from the Naturschutzbund Deutschland NABU. With his contribution "The wolf is back - what now?" from 2015 made it to the finals in the Meistersaal in Berlin.

Since 2009 Tobias Böckermann has published several books on the subject of nature and landscape in Northern Germany , working regularly with the nature photographer Willi Rolfes . He also regularly writes specialist articles for the book series Emsländische Geschichte, the yearbook of the Emsland Heimatbund and in specialist journals. In his free time, Böckermann is also committed to the preservation of old regional livestock breeds and the creation, reactivation and preservation of cultural landscapes in the Emsland that are worthy of protection . He has combined both in practice since 1994 as a breeder of the Bentheimer Landschaf and as co-founder and chairman of the Land Unter association, which has been registered since 1996 and is committed to promoting this old breed of sheep. For him, nature conservation is closely interlinked with the preservation of the region's cultural landscapes, as he makes clear on the borkener-paradies.de website that he operates using several examples. His books on the Bentheimer Landschaf (2011) and the Bunte Bentheimer Schwein can also be seen in this context .

Tobias Böckermann lives in Meppen.
