Willi Rolfes

Wilhelm "Willi" Rolfes (* 1964 in Lohne ) is a German social worker and photographer . He has emerged primarily with nature photographs and has contributed to numerous books as a picture author .

Life

Professional career

After graduating from high school, Willi Rolfes studied social pedagogy with a degree in social pedagogy. He then began his professional career at the Bischöflich Münster official office in Vechta . In the 1990s, he held various positions in church youth education and social work. He headed the episcopal youth welfare office until the year 2000 and was then employed as a managing consultant in the pastoral care department of the diocese of Münster and thus also its deputy head. Since the beginning of 2007, Rolfes has been the managing director of the Catholic Academy in Stapelfeld . In 2010, 2013, 2016 and again in 2019 he was elected to the board of the Lower Saxony State Association of Folk High Schools for three years.

Willi Rolfes lives with his wife Adelheid and their children Elisabeth, Stephan and Johannes in Vechta.

Activity as a nature photographer

Willi Rolfes became known to a wider public through his nature photographs , which he has been doing since 1981. As an autodidact photographer , he describes the nature photographer Fritz Pölking, who died in 2007, as a role model, sponsor and friend. Together with Fritz Pölking as well as Jürgen Borris and Bernhard Volmer, Willi Rolfes set up the nature photographer group “blende4.com” in the early 2000s, which, however, disbanded after Pölking's death

Rolfe's photographic focus is on the landscape of northern Germany with its flora and fauna, whereby his special passion, in addition to the Wadden Sea, is the moor , according to his own statement . He is often out and about in the Great Moor . Rolfes is a member of the Society of German Animal Photographers (GDT) and takes photos with Nikon cameras.

Willi Rolfes passes on his knowledge in lectures and workshops. In addition, he regularly takes part in exhibitions and is the organizer of the Stapelfelder Photo Days, where well-known nature photographers from all over Germany present their photos.

Rolfes has received several awards for his pictures of nature. So he secured 2,009 first prize in the photo competition "cultural landscape in focus" of the Foundation Westphalian cultural landscape and was overall winner of the Harz National Park organized photo contest "Harz Nature 2012" 2012 was he as a nature photographer in the television documentary in his capacity Oldenburg Lonesome Dove of Ralph and Svenja Schieke to see.

In addition to his nature shots, Rolfes has also dealt with other areas of photography, such as architectural photography .
