Tobias Gravenhorst

Tobias Gravenhorst (born September 27, 1962 in Bochum ) is a German church musician , concert organist and musicologist .

biography

After graduating from the Evangelical High School in Siegen-Weidenau in 1981, Gravenhorst studied church music from 1982 to 1986 at the University of Music and Fine Arts in Frankfurt am Main and graduated in 1987 with the A – exam. From 1987 to 1991 he completed organ solo studies in the organ masterclass of the Music Academy of the City of Basel with Daniel Chorzempa, from which he graduated with a soloist diploma.

From 1987 to 1994 Gravenhorst devoted himself to studying history and musicology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . He completed his studies in 1994 with a doctorate on number mystics in baroque music . During his studies he was always active as a church musician in a parish and also as a concert organist.

From 1994 to 2008 Gravenhorst was cantor at the Bachkirche St. Michaelis in Lüneburg , at the same time district cantor for Lüneburg and head of the training course for church music (C course). In 1999 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Lüneburg and from 1999 to 2001 as an organ auditor for the regional church. During these years in Lüneburg, as a choirmaster and concert organist, he set out a wide-ranging repertoire from Gregorian chant to Baroque and Romantic oratorios to new music, from classical church music to jazz .

Concert tours have taken him to Switzerland , Italy , France , Poland , Königsberg , Sweden and Estonia . Radio and CD recordings were also on the program.

Since August 2008, Gravenhorst has been cantor at the St. Petri Cathedral Church in Bremen and thus also director of the Bremen Cathedral Choir . Since 2016 Gravenhorst has also been the regional church music director of Bremen.

In the film Vaya con Dios - And lead us into temptation, he worked as an actor (organist) and was the director of church music.

Tobias Gravenhorst is the brother of the actor David Gravenhorst .
