Death of a friend is a German television film by Diethard Klante from 2006 , which was produced on behalf of ZDF . The main roles are played by Katrin Bühring and Devid Striesow .

action

Within two years, four young women from a village near Munich were murdered in cold blood. The fourth victim was the medical student Tanja Kühn. In all women, the head had been separated from the torso and always hidden in a different place than the body that belonged to it. They all went to a discotheque and the bodies were found within a 15 km radius. For the investigating detective Fabian Herzog, the postman Dieter Wittmann moves into focus, because he knew three of the victims. Tina Stadler, Tanja Kühn's best friend, however, considers his lonely father to be suspicious. He lives right across from the disco and has become an outsider for the last 8 years after his daughter was attacked and killed. Tina meets him by chance in town and secretly follows him in her car. When it stops exactly where Tanja's head was found, she is sure of her suspicion and talks about it with her brother Sebastian. However, this does not exactly encourage her to go to the police with her knowledge, especially since they still suspect Dieter Wittmann and has already arrested him. While Wittmann is still in custody, another young woman is missing. Tina Stadler, who is not "letting go" of her friend's case, discovers her brother Sebastian in her apartment while searching for Barbara Mohr, as he obviously cleans it thoroughly. Both look at each other startled, but don't talk to each other. Tina tries to confide in Commissioner Herzog, but then withdraws. She can't just betray Sebastian because they have had a very close relationship since childhood, but she's now also afraid of him. She tries to convince her brother that he is sick and needs help, but this puts her life in danger. Sebastian's madness is now evident and he admits to having killed a woman at university. He fears that Tina will betray him and threatens her. She locks herself in her room, whereupon Sebastian climbs up the trellis outside the house and Tina then pushes him down in her fear of death when he tries to penetrate her through the window. To the inspector, who suspects the truth, she portrays it as an accident and does not reveal her brother.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv rated: “'Death of a friend' is carried by the young actress Katrin Bühring's face. The showing of the other well-known actors (Striesow, Zapatka, Walser, Giering, Hennicke, Rieke) ensures that this conventionally narrated, dramaturgically quickly transparent film with not exactly brilliant dialogues, at least becomes an entertaining murder guessing game. "

Prisma.de wrote: “Director Diethard Klante staged this exciting, if not particularly original thriller with an excellent cast based on his own script, because the motif of crime that moves into a rural idyll has already been used many times. Katrin Bühring acts convincingly here as a young woman who puts herself in danger while looking for a perpetrator. "

Tilmann P. Gangloff judged for Kino.de : “Klantes, cautiously staged film lives from the well-known actors who were not too good for even short appearances.” Gangloff praised “Poulheim's artful image design” and found “some shots look like an homage to the paintings by Edward Hopper, in others Poulheim has provided lighting conditions that are almost beyond the realms of the world. The foggy scenes in particular are extremely atmospheric. However, the film is only worth seeing if you are ready to enjoy these pictures and the actors. For a crime thriller, 'Death of a Friend' is decidedly too low-tension, which is why the striking ending in the style of a horror film à la Friday the 13th seems even more inappropriate. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm noted that flat dialogues and stiff direction would make good actors (including Manfred Zapatka , Brigitte Hobmeier ) look poor. Overall, 'Death of a Friend' was a “pretentious story, awkwardly staged” for her. They gave the film a medium rating by pointing to the side with their thumbs.
