Tom Aggar (born May 24, 1984 in London ) is a British rower . Aggar is the first Paralympics winner and four-time world champion in Para - Single AS-M1x.

Career

Before starting his rowing career, Aggar successfully played rugby for the University of Warwick . In 2005 he suffered a severe spinal cord injury in an accident and has been paralyzed from the legs since then .

He first began to train on the rowing ergometer , his first competition on a machine specially designed for paraplegics, he contested in 2006. The following year, although he had only contested two official races, he represented Great Britain for the first time at the World Championships . In Munich he won gold in a new world record in the Para-Men-Single (AS-M1x). In 2008 he was a member of the national team for the Summer Paralympics in Beijing, which included para rowing for the first time. Aggar lived up to his role as a favorite and won the gold medal ahead of Olexander Petrenko from Ukraine and Eli Nawi from Israel.

In the following years he participated in rowing world cups and the world championships in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . Aggar, who had never been beaten in an international competition before, always took first place. He was also a favorite at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where he finally came in fourth outside the medal ranks. In the years that followed, the top of the world in Para-One (AS-M1x) was consolidated, with Aggar always reaching the A-final. In 2013 he finished fourth at the World Championships in Chungju , after which he won two silver medals behind the Australian Erik Horrie at the 2014 and 2015 World Championships .

The 1.89 meter tall Aggar has a competition weight of 84 kg and starts for the Royal Docks RC .
