Tom Arden

Tom Arden (born 1961 in Mount Gambier , Australia ; † December 15, 2015 in London , England ; civil David Christopher Rain ) was an Australian fantasy writer.

Life

The seven-year-old Arden wrote his first novella Moon Escape , inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island . As a teenager he played in pop and punk bands and worked as a disc jockey for a radio station. He then studied English literature at the University of Adelaide . In his doctoral thesis he dealt with the letter novel Clarissa by the English writer Samuel Richardson . From 1990 to 1998, he lectured in English at Queens University in Belfast , focusing on literature from the 18th and 19th centuries. His penchant for literature and history from the 18th and 19th centuries also inspired the world of his novels.

Since 1998 he has been a freelance writer. Tom Arden's greatest success was with his ten-volume fantasy cycle Der Kreis des Orokon (1997-2001). In 2002 his novel Shadow Black was published .

Since 2003 Arden has taught creative writing at Middlesex University , London. He died of cancer on December 15, 2015.
