Tomi Lahren (born August 11, 1992 in Rapid City , South Dakota ) is an American journalist who was best known for her program Tomi on the conservative media network TheBlaze . After Lahren declared on the talk show " The View " in March 2017 that he was in favor of legal abortions , her show was canceled on TheBlaze . She then hired at the also conservative television station Fox News .

Origin and education

Tomi Lahren grew up in Rapid City as the daughter of cattle breeders who come from Germany and Norway. Lahren attended the local Central High School and acted as head girl there . After graduation, she moved to Las Vegas and studied political science and journalism at the University of Nevada . During her studies she produced her own political talk show called "The Scramble" for the university's broadcaster. In 2014, she completed her two subjects with a Bachelor of Arts .

Career

After Tomi Lahren had already completed an internship in the office of Republican Congresswoman Kristi Noem , she looked for a conservative medium for another internship. She came across the One America News Network and applied there. After a conversation with the director Robert Herring, he offered her her own talk show. Lahren agreed and moved to San Diego . Her show On Point with Tomi Lahren was broadcast from August 2014. In July 2015, she caused a sensation with a video, which was viewed millions of times, in which she sharply criticized Barack Obama for his handling of an attack on US soldiers in Chattanooga .

On August 19, 2015, Lahren announced that she would no longer work for the One America News Network . She switched to the rival network TheBlaze and moved to Dallas for this . From November 2015 she hosted her own program called Tomi there . The final part "Final Thoughts", in which Lahren sharpened her positions for three minutes, was particularly striking for this format. The format was mainly shared on social networks . In February 2016, Lahren criticized the singer Beyoncé for using her appearance at the Super Bowl to pay homage to the Black Panthers , and once again attracted a lot of attention.

On March 17, 2017, Lahren took part in the talk show " The View ". In the course of the program, Lahren said that she was in favor of the legality of abortions, justifying this by saying that she was in favor of a minimal state. Your show on TheBlaze was then canceled. A legal dispute brought by Lahren in this context was amicably settled. After leaving TheBlaze , Lahren began working for the Great America Alliance , a support group of Donald Trump, in May 2017 . Since August 2017 she has been employed as a commentator for the conservative television station Fox News .

Political positions

Tomi Lahren sees herself as a "constitutional conservative" and declares that she has "central, conservative and libertarian views". Lahren is in favor of the Second Amendment to the Constitution , which allows US citizens to own firearms. She supported the Republican candidate Marco Rubio in the US presidency primaries .

In July 2016, Lahren compared the controversial civil rights movement Black Lives Matter in a tweet with the racist secret society Ku Klux Klan . As a result, 56,000 people signed a petition demanding that their show be canceled on TheBlaze . The petition was unsuccessful.

In March 2017, her commitment to the legality of abortions on the talk show "The View", which also led to the end of her show on TheBlaze and is considered unusual for conservatives, attracted widespread attention . In conservative circles such as the right to life movement , her confession was largely rejected. Her position was accepted by the political left and feminists . Lahren herself stated that she had always been against abortion for herself personally, but that she rejected state laws for this purpose.
