Tomislav Pinter (born June 16, 1926 in Zagreb , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † August 15, 2008 ibid, Croatia ) was a Yugoslav and later Croatian cameraman with sporadic trips to international film .

Live and act

Pinter began to study art at the Zagreb Academy of Art in 1946, Akademija likovnih umjetnosti , but in the same year decided to switch to film. There he started as a camera assistant and initially worked for the Yugoslav state company Jadran , later also for Avala in Belgrade . From 1948 onwards, Pinter photographed short film documentaries independently. At the beginning of the 1960s Tomislav Pinter was employed as head cameraman, his international breakthrough brought him his work in 1967 on the film I even met happy gypsies (original title Skupljaci perja ), which was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival .

As a result, Pinter was also used for various large-scale productions, several times with a World War II background ( The Battle of the Neretva , The Fifth Offensive - Kesselschlacht an der Sutjeska ). Occasionally he was behind the camera in international productions (including Death of a Stranger, Steppenwolf , Transylvania 6-5000, The Girl - a dangerous girl and The Flier ). The outbreak of the Yugoslav Wars in 1991 largely ended his career. It wasn't until the new millennium that Pinter began making films again on a regular basis.

Awards

Pinter has also won several awards, including in 1965 at the 4th Moscow Film Festival for the film Prometej s otoka Viševice , which appeared the previous year , in 1996 at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Valencia for his cinematography on Carmen and in 2006 the Certificate of Excellence on the Brooklyn International Film Festival for his camera work at Kontakt . In 2008, the year he died, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Croatian Film Festival. In addition, Tomislav Pinter was an eight-time winner of the “Golden Arena” at the Pula Film Festival ; Pinter won the Vladimir Nazor Prize donated by the Croatian Ministry of Culture three times.
