Tommy Archer
Tommy Archer (born November 16, 1954 in Duluth , Minnesota ) is a retired American racing driver .
Career
Tommy Archer first appeared as a racing driver in 1975 when he tried unsuccessfully on a Datsun 510 to qualify for the Sebring 12-hour race . His first international racing appearance was in 1987 when he was at the start in a Chevrolet Camaro at the Daytona 24-hour race . In the twelve years between these two races, he drove ice races in the United States, winning seven national championships. In the early 1980s, he also increasingly began to compete in sports car races. He was involved in the US SCCA sports car championship and the American Le Mans Series .
In 1997 he came to Europe as a works driver from ORECA to compete in the FIA GT Championship and the Le Mans 24-hour race . At four Le Mans starts, the two twelfth places in the overall classification in 1999 and 2000 were the best results. Archer competed five times in the Camping World Truck Series in the 1990s and drove sports car races in North America in his final years.
