Tommy Dorfman (born May 13, 1992 in Atlanta ) is an American national and an actor , best known for his portrayal of Ryan Shaver in the Netflix own production Dead Girls Don't Lie .

Life

Dorfman grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, USA . In 2015 Dorfman graduated from Fordham University as a member of the relevant program with a Bachelor in Theater Studies .

Dorfman has been openly gay since beginning his acting career . Dorfman got engaged to Peter Zurkuhlen in April 2015, and the two married on November 12, 2016 in Portland .

In June 2018, Dorfman announced that he would not identify himself as male or female, but as non-binary , and for this reason claimed to be designated in a gender-neutral way with the singular pronoun they (untranslatable in German). Some journalists also use this type of formulation when reporting on Dorfman.

Dorfman's cousin is the lawyer Andi Dorfman , who became known in the United States as a participant in the 18th season of The Bachelor or as The Bachelorette of the tenth season.

Career

A year after graduation, Dorfman found out about the casting for the Netflix series Dead Girls Don't Lie from a roommate . Dorfman was finally cast in the recurring supporting role Ryan Shaver , an openly homosexual student like Dorfman, who receives a tape from the late protagonist Hannah Baker , on which she blames him for her suicide because he wrote her very personal poem without her consent distributed to her classmates. Dorfman played the role in the first two seasons of the series.

In October 2017, Dorfman received the Rising Star Award at the GLAAD Media Awards . In the following month, Dorfman designed his own fashion collection for ASOS .

In the spring of 2019, Dorfman first starred in the play Daddy by author Jeremy O. Harris and directed by Danya Taymor at The New Group in New York City .
