Tomomi Abiko ( Japanese 我 孫子 智 美 , Abiko Tomomi; born March 17, 1988 in Kusatsu ) is a Japanese pole vaulter .

Athletic career

Tomomi Abiko gained her first international experience at the 2005 World Youth Championships in Marrakech , where she finished tenth in the final. In 2006 she reached seventh place with 4.00 m at the Junior World Championships in Beijing . In 2009 she won the bronze medal at the East Asian Games in Hong Kong with 3.90 m. In 2010 she won bronze at the Asian Games in Guangzhou . The following year she failed at the Asian Championships in Kobe at the initial height of 4.00 m. In 2012 she qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where she was eliminated with 4.25 m in qualification .

In 2014 she won the gold medal at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou and the silver medal at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, behind the Chinese Li Ling . In 2015 she won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Wuhan . In 2016 she won the bronze medal at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha with 4.15 m. In 2017 she was eliminated again at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar without a valid height.

So far she has been Japanese champion in pole vault five times.
