Tony Lee

Tony Lee (born July 23, 1934 in London as Anthony Leedham Lee , † March 9, 2004 in Esher ) was a British jazz pianist .

Live and act

Lee was a self-taught pianist . After his military service, some of which he performed in Germany, he turned to music. His trio with bassist Tony Archer played since the mid-1960s, most recently as a house trio in Bull's Head . In the late 1960s he was a member of the Phil Seamen quintet and was on their albums Phil Seamen Now! . . . Live! (1968) and Phil Seamen Meets Eddie Gomez (1968) involved. His solo debut Electric Piano (1971) has been compared to the work of Burt Bacharach . During the 1970s he played in the all-star band "The Best of British Jazz" founded by Jack Parnell with Don Lusher , Kenny Baker , Betty Smith and Tony Archer, which existed until 1985. He also worked with Tommy Whittle , Terry Smith, Tubby Hayes and Dick Morrissey, as well as with Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield . He also accompanied American jazz musicians such as Barney Kessel , Sonny Stitt and Eddie Lockjaw Davis .
