Toprakkale ( Turkish for earth castle ) is a district town and capital of the district of the same name in Turkey . It is located in the Osmaniye Province . Toprakkale is located in the south of the province and borders the Adana and Hatay provinces . Over half of the district's population is settled in the city.

The smallest district of the Osmaniye province was newly formed in 1996 and, in addition to the district town ( Merkez ), has another town (7,279 inhabitants) with Tüysüz . There are only three villages ( Köy , plural Kölyer ) in the district, Lalegölü as the largest has 932 inhabitants.

About two kilometers south of the city is the crusader castle Toprakkale (formerly Til Hamdun ). It was probably built in Byzantine times and was slightly expanded by the Crusaders or Armenians in the 12th century. The building, which is located in the Adana-Gaziantep-Antakya triangle, has underground passages and 33 rooms, some of which are well preserved, as well as a double, rectangular enclosure wall.
