Sumbas is a district town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Osmaniye . Sumbas is located in the west of the province and borders the Adana province . The city comprises about 15 percent of the district's population.

The district was newly formed in 1996 and, in addition to the district town ( Merkez ), also includes the city of Mehmetli (2,350 inhabitants) and 13 villages ( Köy , plural Köyler ), in which an average of 752 people live. Four of the villages have more than 1,000 inhabitants: Çiçeklidere (1,005), Yeşilyayla (1,029), Gafarlı (1,369) and Alibeyli (1,606 inhabitants).

The Mehmetli Dam is 7 km north of the city.
