The peat bog is a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Holzminden .
The former nature reserve with the registration number NSG HA 099 is 44 hectares in size. It is part of the FFH area “Moore and Forests in Hochsolling, Hellental” and the EU bird sanctuary “Solling”. The area has been under nature protection since June 5, 1986. On June 9, 2019, the newly designated " Moore and Forests in Hochsolling, Hellental " nature reserve opened up. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the district of Holzminden.
The former nature reserve is located southeast of the Holzminder district of Silberborn in Solling within the Solling-Vogler Nature Park . It placed a formerly drained hill moor of the Hangmoor type that had been changed by peat cutting under protection. The water balance of the moor could be improved by closing the drainage ditches . Furthermore, decussing measures were carried out.
The moor area is characterized by birch bog forests in the peripheral areas and former peat cuttings in which dwindling communities have formed. Furthermore, raised bog communities with peat moss and scabbard cotton grass can be found.
The area drains north to Holzminde and south to Dölme .
