Totus Gaudeo is a music group from the Landshut area .

history

The name Totus Gaudeo comes from the Latin and freely translated means "I'm so happy". The musicians of Totus Gaudeo met by chance in 2003 at the festival for the 600th anniversary of the Ergoldsbach market . The group performed as a classic walking act at medieval festivals and knight tournaments. In 2006, the debut album Vagantenstreich was recorded in-house.

In 2008 the band won the band contest announced by Radio Aena as part of the event "Ritter in München". A year later, the second album Aus der Bredouille was recorded in the studio of Roth Recordings in Kirchrimbach and was able to win its owner Dieter Roth, known as the producer of Haggard , as a producer. Since then, some of the songs have been published on various samplers, such as the medieval samplers from Pax et Gaudium , Zillo or Miroque magazine.

In the meantime, Totus Gaudeo is at various knight festivals such as B. on Amerang Castle , fortress Kufstein , Trausnitz (Landshut) or the Castle Festival in Neufahrn in Lower Bavaria successfully occurred. Totus Gaudeo has become indispensable at the annual castle festival in Burghausen. So in 2013 the band played the headlining role. At the Mediaval Festival in Selb, Europe's largest medieval music festival, Totus Gaudeo was able to playfully win over her audience in 2011 and 2013. In summer / autumn 2013, the artists joined forces with bestselling author Richard Dübell in the project "CODEX - a literarical" in order to present the first volume of Dübell's trilogy The Devil's Bible to a wide audience.

On October 5th, 2014 Totus Gaudeo released their third album Player . The album was produced by Hubsi Widmann, who was the former bassist and producer of Schandmaul . The ranks of the formations produced by Widmann include u. a. also Faun, Furunculus Bladilo and Adas.

style

The band's music can hardly be assigned to a genre. The repertoire ranges from historical dances to pieces in an entertaining songwriter style to folk rock. In addition to Latin texts, e.g. B. from the Carmina Burana , the lyrics are mainly written in German. The group often tells little stories, most of which are embedded in a medieval world. The instrumentation with hurdy-gurdy, shawm, shepherd's pipe, lute, bouzouki and flutes also brings the music close to medieval music , although it does not claim to be historical authenticity. The band itself describes their style as "vagante music".

Press reviews

  • With their 2nd album “Aus der Bredouille” at the end of 2009, they hit the bull's eye with a wink with a lot of sense for cozy melodies and smart arrangements (Zillo)
  • ... For me, Totus Gaudeo is one of the best acoustic rock bands from the Middle Ages. Brilliant musicians and outstanding singers do not shy away from writing their own inspiring pieces in addition to traditional topics. ... (folkworld.de)
  • If you are still in a bad mood after hearing about so much lust for life, it is really your own fault! (Miroque)
