Toumour is a rural municipality in the department of Bosso in Niger .
geography
Toumour is located northeast of the regional capital Diffa in the Manga landscape in the Sahel region . The neighboring communities are Kabléwa in the north, Bosso in the east and south and Gueskérou in the west. The municipality is divided into the administrative village of Toumour and the waterhole Kakarawa. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Toumour.
history
Toumour belonged to the canton of Bosso until a nationwide administrative reform in 2002, the territory of which was divided between the rural communities of Bosso and Toumour. Since 2011, the rural communities no longer belong to the Diffa department , but to the newly created Bosso department.
The neighboring community of Bosso was attacked in 2015 by the jihadist terrorist group Boko Haram from Nigeria . Toumour took in refugees from Bosso. In 2016, three days of fighting between Boko Haram and the Chad- supported armed forces of Niger took place near the main town of Toumour . According to the army, 38 jihadists and two soldiers were killed.
population
At the 2001 census, Toumour had 946 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 11,713. In the main town almost exclusively settled Fulbe live , in the surrounding area semi-settled and nomadic Fulbe. Toumour is the seat of an influential Fulani leader.
Economy and Infrastructure
The majority of the community is in an area where rain-fed agriculture is predominant. In the northwest the zone of agropastoralism begins .
