The 29th Tour de l'Ain 2017 was a French road bike race in the Ain department . The stage race took place from August 8 to 12, 2017 . It was part of the UCI Europe Tour 2017 and classified there in category 2.1 . Overall winner was the Frenchman Thibaut Pinot from FDJ .

After Johan Le Bon (France / FDJ) won the prologue in 4:32 minutes and two seconds ahead of Alexandre Geniez (France / AG2R), Juan José Lobato (Spain / LottoNL) secured the first stage ahead of Nacer Bouhanni (France / Cofidis) ) in the sprint. The second stage was won by Bouhanni in a mass sprint, who took over the overall lead from Le Bon.

On the third stage, a total of three mountain ratings in the first category and two mountain ratings in the third category had to be conquered. On the last climb, the Cote de Ceyssiat , the two FDJ drivers Thibaut Pinot and David Gaudu pulled away from the remaining field. At the finish, Pinot let Gaudu win the stage. Pinot took over the overall lead. On the fourth and final stage, Alexandre Geniez (France / AG2R) won a group of three sprinting on undulating terrain ahead of Thibaut Pinot (France / FDJ) and Mattia Cattaneo (Italy / Androni). The next larger chasing group crossed the finish line four seconds behind. Pinot retained the overall ranking and thus won the tour.
