Stages and course of the race

The first stage led from the coastal town of La Croix Valmer inland, where the destination Grimaud had already been passed, from where the route continued inland and then to the coast. The field then moved back to Grimaud. A total of four mountain classifications were on the program, and the way to the finish was also a two-kilometer climb. Here the field splintered into several groups, but there were no great gaps between them. In the sprint for the day's victory, Samuel Dumoulin ( Cofidis ) prevailed against Rinaldo Nocentini from Ag2r La Mondiale .

The next day, Draguignan and the surrounding area were driven in a 207-kilometer section . Seven climbs had to be climbed, the last one being a few kilometers from the finish. Seven kilometers from the finish, the previously very active French national champion Thomas Voeckler ( Total Direct Énergie ) and Julien Antomarchi from the small team VC La Pomme Marseille , to whom he left the day's victory. Instead, Voeckler won the yellow jersey.
