The Carte Blanche theater

The Travestie-Revue-Theater Carte Blanche is a travesty theater in Dresden 's Äußere Neustadt district . The renowned ensemble, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2009 as part of the Dresden Film Nights , gained nationwide fame through the television program Das Sat.1-Magazin, which was broadcast on the evening before , when reporters accompanied the theater director Zora Schwarz for a week and behind the scenes of the theater.

History of the "carte blanche"

In 1984 Zora Schwarz, who was born in Croatia and later lived in Dortmund for a long time, and Erich Mühlheim founded the travesty group Carte Blanche , which toured all over Germany with changing members. Two years after the death of her husband Bernd Schwarz, who mainly worked on the show as a technician and organizer, Zora opened the travesty revue on November 28, 2003 in the immediate vicinity of the still existing Pfunds Molkerei shop in Dresden's Prießnitzstraße in the former dairy production buildings -Theater Carte Blanche and said goodbye to tour life. The theater shows excerpts from well-known musicals, comedy and parodies by stars like Cher , Madonna , Katy Perry , Milva and many more. Only two years after the opening of the Revue Theater, however, the founding member Erich had a serious accident during a rehearsal in 2005, from which he has not yet recovered.

In April 2008, as part of the “Zoras Glamor Welt” series, reporters from the television program Das Sat.1-Magazin , which was broadcast in the evening before , accompanied the theater manager Zora Schwarz for a week and looked behind the scenes of the theater, which made it famous throughout Germany attained.

The ensemble has consisted of six permanent members since 2009: Zora Schwarz , Ann Maciva , Stefanie Colbert , Dusty Rose , Kim Jackson and Jessica Spirit . The show program is changed annually. In addition, every month new guest artists, who have already become known through film and theater, such as Elke Winter , Leslie Anderson , Wanda Kay , Marcel Bijou , Jhonny Boy , Paula Jackson or Miss Chantal ( Gorden Gatz ) appear. Gatz, who in his references has made numerous appearances on TV and at major cultural events such as the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), was a regular star guest, ensemble member and artistic director of the Revue Theater from 2003 to 2010.

On July 25, 2009, the ensemble celebrated its 25th anniversary with the revue “La Grande Revue - The Night of Travesty” in front of 4,000 spectators as part of the Dresden Film Nights . In the same year, the book “Travesty - The Great Revue: Carte Blanche” by Sarrasani biographer Ernst “Ergü” Günther was published, which deals with the history of travesty as well as a main part with Zora Schwarz and the Carte Blanche .

In June 2013 the Carte Blanche was completely destroyed by the Dresden floods. The small river Prießnitz, which flows directly behind the theater, flooded the theater, the Varieté-Theater Dresden and the costume collection. After a six-month break and complete renovation, the Carte Blanche reopened its doors on November 28th.

In January 2015, the renovation of the adjoining and previously empty dairy hall began in order to merge the two stages of the Carte Blanche and Variete Theater Dresden. The new theater opened on October 1st with a capacity of 248 seats and is now one of the largest travesty theaters in Europe.
