history

The glassmaker Johann Jürgen Gundelach had signed a contract with the Swedish government in Pomerania in 1705 for the construction of two glassworks in the western Ueckermünder Heide . After the southern part of Western Pomerania came under Prussian administration, he was able to conclude a similar contract with Prussia in 1722 . It also agreed to build a chapel on the skirmish. Until then, the glass workers had to go to Torgelow to go to church .

Gundelach himself wrote a chronicle about the building of the church. On September 10th, his workers began digging the foundations. The master mason Georg Sigmund Matthege from Pasewalk took over the construction , the carpentry the master carpenter Jürgen Oldenburg from Torgelow. The door, floor and fittings were the work of the Anklam master carpenter Salomon Reimer. The glass for the windows came from our own production, the installation was carried out by a master Meck from Strasburg (Uckermark) .

The inauguration of the chapel took place on August 25, 1726, the extension to the church in 1745. Until 1842 it was assigned to the church in Torgelow, then an independent pastor's office was set up in Ferdinandshof.

Extensive renovation work began in 2013.

Buildings and equipment

The church was erected as a rectangular plastered building on a field stone foundation. The tower substructure with a three-sided west end consists of field stone. There are pilaster strips at the corners of the building . The windows have cleaning bottles . There is a half-timbered porch in front of the southern entrance . The eight-sided roof tower in half-timbered construction has a curved hood .

The church hall has a simple wooden beam ceiling. Pulpit altar , patronage box , stalls and galleries date from the time the church was built. Johann Jürgen Gundelach had the baptismal angel with a palm branch in his left hand and a laurel wreath in his right hand brought from Lübeck . The baptismal bowl was made from locally made green glass.

The ringing consists of two bells that were cast by Michael Begun from Friedland in Stargard Castle . In 1787 the larger bell was cast over because it cracked.

Its builder Johann Jürgen Gundelach († 1736) and the official tenant Christoph Ludwig Henrici († 1758) were buried in the church.
