Truddi Chase (born February 22, 1935 near Rochester , New York , † March 10, 2010 in Laurel ) was an American author. She became known with the book When Rabbit Howls from 1987, which appeared in 1988 under the title Aufschrei in German language.

Life

According to her narrative case report, Truddi Chase was sexually abused by her stepfather from the age of two to sixteen and beaten and neglected by her mother. During adult psychotherapy with a hypnotherapist , the diagnosis of multiple personality disorder (today: dissociative identity disorder ) was made. In the place of a single personality came 92, which they represented and defended outwardly. In her book When Rabbit Howls , she processed her experiences. The book describes how sexual abuse can destroy a person's soul. It came about as part of their therapeutic process. The book was written by the various personalities of Truddi Chase, whom she called "Troops" (English for troops).

The book was first reviewed in the San Francisco Chronicle when it was published. Sue N. Elkind called it a highly unusual document on many levels in her review in a specialist journal of the Jung Institute.

In 1990, based on the book, a two-part ABC mini-series was created under the title Voices Within: The Lives of Truddi Chase (German title: Schreie aus dem Innern ) with Shelley Long in the title role. Truddi Chase worked closely with the screenwriter to ensure the authenticity of the sitter. In 1990 she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show .

Trauma Advice Leipzig found that its presentation gave “a deep insight into the complex existential inner-psychological dynamics, communication and reality in people with dissociative identity disorder”.
