Trudpert Neugart

Trudpert Neugart (born February 23, 1742 in Villingen , † December 15, 1825 in St. Paul , Carinthia) was professor of oriental languages, court chaplain of Prince Abbot Martin Gerbert and archivist of the monastery of St. Blasien . He has made a particular contribution to researching the diplomatic history of the German dioceses.

Life

Neugart was probably the son of Joachim Neugart, a hospital miller from Villingen, and after attending grammar school in his hometown, he entered the St. Blasien Abbey, where he studied philosophy and theology as well as oriental languages. His ordination he received on 1 June 1765. In 1767 he was appointed as professor of oriental languages at the University of Freiburg appointed, but returned in 1770 already returned to St. Blaise back where he was chaplain of the Prince Bishop Martin Gerbert worked and was appointed by him to lecturer in theology at the monastery. In 1778 he became a pastor in the Gurtweil and Nöggenschwiel monastery parish , later administrator of the Krozingen provost . Around 1780, Neugart was commissioned by Gerbert to describe the history of the German archdioceses, beginning with the diocese of Constance . In the course of this task he resigned from pastoral care in 1783 and became a monastery archivist in St. Blasien. After the Peace of Pressburg and the beginning of the abolition of the monasteries, Neugart turned to Vienna , where he attended negotiations about the resettlement of the monks from St. Blasien, who then came to St. Paul in the Lavant Valley in Carinthia via the canons' monastery Spital . There he continued the work started in St. Blasien and also wrote a history of the St. Paul Monastery in Latin.
