Tswanaland was a homeland in South West Africa (now Namibia ), which was given a certain autonomy status during the apartheid period . There was no official capital; The administrative seat was Aminuis .
Even today (as of March 2020) mainly Tswana still live in the area of the former homeland .
Like the other homelands in South West Africa , Tswanaland was dissolved in 1989, shortly before Namibia's independence.
expansion
In 1960, around 10,000 people lived in an area of 1554 square kilometers . The area is on the border with Botswana . This original area had a north-south extension of 95.5 km and an east-west extension of about 16.3 km. Aminuis was outside this relatively narrow strip of land. The Odendaal Plan also envisaged an extension of the Tswanaland to the west. With the non-white reserve listed in the plan, the area covers an area of around 7200 square kilometers and includes Aminuis.
