Vegetative characteristics

The stem leaves are arranged opposite one another. The lower stem leaves are elongated-elliptical to obovate and resemble the leaves of the base rosette, which is usually already dried up by the time of flowering. The upper stem leaves are up to 3 centimeters long, linear-lanceolate, sessile, three-veined and provided with star hairs on both sides.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from March to June. The long-stalked flowers stand together in terminal, loose, racemose inflorescences . The hermaphroditic flowers are one to two centimeters in diameter and are radially symmetrical and five-fold with a double flower envelope . Of the five sepals , the inner three are larger and broader than the two outer ones. The five, free petals are light yellow, sometimes whitish and spotted dark brown at the base.
The capsule fruits are on protruding or downward sloping stems.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24, 36 or 48.
