Tubod

Tubod is an independently administered municipality in the Philippine province of Lanao del Norte . It is also the seat of the provincial government of this province and is located on its western border to the neighboring province of Misamis Occidental directly on the Bay of Panguil .

Origin of name

Tubod got its name from a spring located in Sitio Baybay in the Baranggay Poblacion. Legend has it that the spring never dries up, even during the longest dry spells. The name Tubod comes from the Visayan dialect and means "water source".

Historians point out that mainly Christian immigrants from Luzon and the Visayas settled here.

history

With Republic Act No. 58, Tubod was detached from the mother parish of Kolambugan on October 17, 1946 and made a separate administrative parish.

From this point on the economic development progressed slowly, as the place had almost no developed roads. In the following years, when the administrative government was in the district of Baroy, the development of the community dragged on.

On June 10, 1949, with Executive Order No. 222, the district of Baroy was then separated from Tubod as an independent administrative municipality. In the years that followed, road construction was promoted, public markets and a quay were also created, which contributed significantly to the development of the infrastructure.

On February 3, 1982, the seat of the provincial government Lanao del Nortes was moved from the city of Iligan City to Tubod, making the municipality the capital of the province.
