The Tukituki River is a 105 km long river in the Hawke's Bay region of the North Island of New Zealand .

geography

The river rises on the southern flank of the 1,686 m high Ohuinga in the Ruahine Range , flows to Waipukurau in a south-easterly direction, and then in a left turn on the south-east side of the Kaokaoroa Range following the north-east direction behind Havelock North into Hawke Bay and thus in to flow into the Pacific Ocean .

The flow, which normally has a flow of 150 m 3 / sec. in minimum, brought in 1938 with around 200,000 m 3 / sec. its peak value measured so far. In the flood of 1893, however, the river washed away the bridges in the towns of Tamumu and Patangata, below Waipukurau, and flooded the small town of Clive on the coast.

use

The river is used to irrigate the farmland along its entire length . For the anglers, the river offers rainbow trout up to 1.5 kg in size, in the lower course even up to 4 kg. Brown trout are also occasionally caught.
