Tulipa doerfleri is a rare species of tulip ( Tulipa ) in the lily family (Liliaceae). The independence of the species is sometimes not recognized, as it isclosely relatedto Tulipa orphanidea .
features
Tulipa doerfleri is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The leaves are runny, dark, their upper side is pale green. The bottom sheet is up to 16 millimeters wide. The petals are 30 to 50 millimeters in size, egg-shaped, blunt, spatulate, contracted at the base and colored dark red. On the inside there is a dark spot on the ground, on the outside the ground is green.
The flowering period extends from April to May.
Occurrence
Tulipa doerfleri is endemic to Crete in the Rethymno regional district . The species grows in fields and on fallow land at altitudes of 400 to 800 meters, especially in the area of the Gious Kambos plateau . Only vegetative reproduction was observed, which could explain the very limited range.
