History of origin
Bassist Tomi Göttlich came up with the idea for the concept album on one of his motorcycle tours through Great Britain.
Hansi Kürsch ( Blind Guardian ), Piet Sielck ( Iron Savior ) and Hacky Hackmann act as the background choir, who is also the contact to the bagpiper heard on the album. The keyboard passages come from HP Katzenburg for the first time, who was only officially admitted to the band in 1999 disguised as the band's mascot Reaper .
The cover shows a skeleton playing bagpipes on a battlefield. It was drawn by Andreas Marschall , who in retrospect was not satisfied with his work because he had too little time available.
The band invited selected music journalists to Scotland for promotional purposes.
Based on the album title, the DVD of the live performance at Wacken 2001 was called Tunes of Wacken .
For the band's 30th anniversary, the entire album was played in Wacken.
