Turgut Altuğ (born May 4, 1965 in Tarsus (Turkey) ) is a German politician ( Bündnis90 / Die Grünen ).

Life

Altuğ is the sixth of nine children in a farm worker family. After graduating from high school in Tarsus, he studied political science in Ankara , then agricultural sciences at the Aegean University in Izmir .

In 1992 he immigrated to Germany. From 1996 to 1998 he completed the master’s course "Agricultural Science and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics" at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In April 2002 he did his doctorate at the University of Hohenheim on the “Characterization of Criollo goats in their production environment in the Andean valleys of Bolivia”.

In 2009 Altuğ founded the Turkish-German Environmental Center in Berlin-Kreuzberg , Germany's first environmental organization for migrants. In 2010 he was honored by the federal government for this special commitment.

In 2006 Altuğ became a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party. In the same year he ran for election to the Berlin House of Representatives in 2006 .
In September 2011, in the Berlin state election, 2011 , he was right in the constituency Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg 3 in the Berlin House of Representatives voted. In the election for the Berlin House of Representatives in 2016 , he was able to defend his direct mandate with 31.3% of the first votes cast. Within the green parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, Altuğ is responsible for the areas of nature conservation and consumer protection and its spokesman for nature and consumer protection, environmental and nature education .

Honors

On December 1, 2010, the federal government awarded Turgut Altuğ with the integration medal . Minister of State Maria Böhmer presented him with the award during a ceremony in the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. With the medal eight people are honored each year since 2010, which is characterized by outstanding personal commitment in a special way to the integration have rendered outstanding.
