[obsolete] The Integration Medalis an award from the German Federal Government and has been awarded since 2010 to individuals whohave made aspecial contribution to integration through outstanding personal commitment.

Origin and right of proposal

The integration medal was launched in 2010 at the suggestion of the then integration commissioner of the federal government, Minister of State Maria Böhmer .

Since then, the award has been given annually to eight citizens (not to associations or associations) who are particularly committed to the integration of people with a migration background in Germany and to good cooperation in society. One of the criteria for the award of the medal is that the commitment to integration is exemplary and sustainable. The right to propose the award of medals rests with the parliamentary groups of the political parties in the German Bundestag ; the permissible number of proposals depends on the strength of the political groups. The nationality of the nominee does not play a role in the nomination.

Mint and appearance

The medals were minted in the Berlin State Mint . They are made of silver , weigh 20 g and have a diameter of 4 cm. The Staatliche Museen Berlin are exhibiting a "specimen copy" of the integration medal in their coin cabinet . A precise description of the inscriptions on the front and back as well as further details about the medal can be found on the homepage of the Münzkabinett Berlin.

Award

The award of the integration medal with a corresponding certificate takes place in the autumn months as part of a ceremony at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin . It is carried out by the incumbent Minister of State to the Federal Chancellor , who is the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration .
