Turn me on, damn it! (also: Turn me on, Goddammit , original title Få meg på, for faen , English title: Turn Me On, Dammit! ) is a Norwegian coming-of-age film from 2011 . The film is based on the youth book of the same name by Olaug Nilssen and was also the feature film debut of the Norwegian director Jannicke Systad Jacobsen .

15-year-old Alma spends her time in the Norwegian provincial town of Skoddeheimen with sexual daydreams. She lives out her desires with the help of telephone sex hotlines. Alma raves about her classmate Artur, but doesn't dare to speak to him. At a party the hoped-for first sexual rapprochement takes place between the two, but Alma's friends don't believe a word. “Tail-Alma” subsequently becomes the top topic of conversation at school.

The shooting took place in Norway from the end of June to mid-August 2010. For example, an estimated budget of 17.5 million NOK (around 2.1 million euros) was used in the towns of Hjelmeland , Sauda , Suldal and Oslo .

The film premiered on June 20, 2011 in the main competition of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City as the first Norwegian film to date. It started in Norway on August 19, 2011. In Switzerland, the film screened on September 23, 2011 in the competition at the Zurich Film Festival . In Germany, the film was shown at the beginning of November 2011 at the Nordic Film Days Lübeck . The theatrical release in Germany was May 8, 2014 and the German version was released on DVD and Blu-ray on November 7, 2014.

Rotten Tomatoes awarded a rating of 93 percent out of 42 professional reviews with an average rating of 7.3 out of 10 points. Based on 18 evaluated reviews, the film on Metacritic received a rating of 70 percent.

The lexicon of international film describes the film as a “serious youth and social drama”, since what “could be a provocation is not developing in the direction of frivolity”. Rather, the film takes the needs of its protagonist seriously.

The film service sees Jacobsen's feature film debut as a film that deals with “genuinely sincere, true-to-life and gentle humor with awakening youthful sexuality” and “refreshingly shows a“ lustful ”girl as a positive figure to identify with“ without rough punchlines or false shyness ”.

Awards

Jacobsen's film received the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival award for Best Screenplay and was nominated for Best International Fiction Film at the Zurich Film Festival in the same year . At the Rome Film Fest 2011 the film was awarded as best independent film. At the Stockholm International Film Festival 2011 he was nominated for the main prize, the bronze horse .

In Norway, the film won the Amanda Film Award in 2012 in the categories of Best Norwegian Film (Årets norske kinofilm) and Best Cinematography (Årets foto). There were also nominations for Helene Bergsholm for Best Actress (Årets kvinnelige skuespiller) and Malin Bjørhovde for Best Supporting Actress (Årets kvinnelige birolle). Ginge Anvik was nominated for best music (Årets musikk) and Jannicke Systad Jacobsen was nominated for best screenplay (Årets film manuscript) .
