Career

Tuukka Kaukoniemi took part in FIS races and the Finnish championships from the 2000/2001 season . After first victories and podium places in FIS races, he started in Levi in December 2004 for the first time in two giant slaloms in the European Cup , in which, however, he failed in the first round. During the next two years there were no further European Cup starts. In February 2005 Kaukoniemi took part in the Junior World Championships in Bardonecchia , where he only came 66th in the downhill.

After Kaukoniemi had won three FIS races again in the 2005/2006 season, he was regularly used in the European Cup and World Cup slaloms from winter 2006/2007 . While he did not make it into the second round in any of the World Cup races, he achieved 21st place in the first slalom in Salla as the best result of the season in the European Cup . Kaukoniemi was also part of the Finnish team at the 2007 World Cup in Åre . He was eliminated in slalom after 25th place in the first run in the second run, but reached fourth place with his teammates in the team competition .

From the 2007/2008 season, Kaukoniemi was rarely used in the World Cup and still remained without points. In the European Cup he achieved his best career result on December 5, 2007 with eleventh place in the giant slalom in Geilo . Due to a ligament injury in his knee, he had to end the season six weeks later. Throughout the next winter, Kaukoniemi remained without points in the European Cup. In FIS races, however, he still managed to win. After the Finnish championships in April 2009, he ended his career as an active ski racer.
