The Tyja ( Russian Тыя ) is a tributary of Lake Baikal and thus one of the Angara .

It flows in Russia , Asia . The Tyja retains the character of a whitewater river until it flows into Lake Baikal and is not navigable. The name "Tyja" comes from Evenk (language of the Evenks ) and means: "dog" or in the figurative sense also "bad place".

River course

  • The headwaters of the River Tyja are about 100 km (as the crow flies ) north-northeast of Severobaikalsk . From the north-east it flows to the confluence with the river Goudschekit (Гоуджекит) near the settlement Goudschekit about 20 km before the mouth (where there are hot springs).
  • From here it flows further north to the mouth, from Goudschekit to Severobaikalsk the tracks of the Baikal-Amur main line run parallel to the course of the river .
  • At the confluence with the North Baikal, the Tyja forms a small delta, on the eastern side of which the city of Severobaikalsk was built.

Catchment area

The Tyja belongs to the river system of the Angara and forms its northwestern border on the watershed to the river system of the Lena .
