Tyler John Simpson (born August 28, 1985 in Sydney , † May 26, 2011 ) was an Australian football player . The defender played for Queensland Roar and Perth Glory in the Australian A-League between 2005 and 2008 and was under contract with Blacktown City at the time of his death . His twin brother Jordan Simpson is also a professional footballer.

Career

Simpson played 2003/04 for Northern Spirit in the youth league of the National Soccer League and then had a guest appearance in Armenia at Dinamo-Zenit Yerevan . After his return to Australia he played with the Northern Tigers in the New South Wales Winter Super League , the second highest division of the state of New South Wales and in the 2004/05 season with the St. George Saints in the NSW Premier League . In 2005 he signed, like his brother Jordan, a professional contract with the A-League club Queensland Roar and completed four appearances in the top division of Australia. In February 2006, he was invited to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra for a screening course for the Olympic selection and, like his twin brother, took part in the “Spring Cup” in Vietnam with the selection two months later. Both received no contract with Roar beyond the 2005/06 season .

In August 2006, Simpson signed a one-month short-term contract with Perth Glory to replace the injured Bobby Despotovski and came to a league assignment. He then played for some time at Sydney Olympic before he was signed again by Perth to replace the injured David Tarka , his brother was also under contract in Perth in the 2007/08 season . After neither of them received a contract extension beyond the end of the season, they probably ventured to Europe in early 2008, but at an unnamed Cypriot club, the signed contracts were declared invalid on arrival and the brothers threatened to return to Australia. The Australian players' union sought compensation for the two players from the FIFA Dispute Settlement Chamber . Since March 2008 he played with the Blacktown City Demons (since 2009 Blacktown City) in the New South Wales Premier League , in 2010 he was one of the top performers in winning the league championship.

Simpson committed suicide in May 2011. The Australian Olympic team (U-23) wore black ribbon in his honor in the friendly against Japan on June 1, 2011 .
