The Type 98 Armored Car So-Da ( Japanese 九八 式 装甲 運 搬 車 ソ ダ , Kyūhachi-shiki sōko unpansha So-Da ) was a Japanese armored personnel carrier during World War II , which was used to transport ammunition and soldiers. It was designed in 1938 ( Kōki 2598, hence the type designation) and used by the Imperial Japanese Army until 1945 .

history

British soldiers with a captured Type 98 So-Da in Burma , 1945.

In 1938, building on the Type 97 Te-Ke - Chassis 98 So-Da designed the type and armored vehicle for the ammunition and troop transport. It could carry up to a ton of ammunition or 10 soldiers. While the Type 1 Ho-Ki was not particularly popular with the army due to its low top speed, the So-Da could convince with 40 km / h. Due to its low side armor, it could only be used to a limited extent as an infantry fighting vehicle, as the soldiers carrying it were only poorly protected.

technology

The type 98 So-Da weighed five tons and had a maximum speed of 40 km / h. A three-ton trailer could be attached to the Type 98 to expand the transport capacity.
