The Type 4 Ke-Nu ( Japanese 四 式 軽 戦 車 ケ ヌ , yon-shiki keisensha ke-nu , Eng . "Type 4 light tank Ke-Nu") was a light Japanese tank that was produced towards the end of the Second World War was used. The Type 4 was created to increase the number of light tanks to support the army, using obsolete components from other tanks.
The original version of the Type 97 Chi-Ha was equipped with a 57mm low muzzle velocity cannon. During the war in Manchukuo against the Soviet Union and the second Sino-Japanese War , it turned out that the vehicle had insufficient firepower against enemy tanks, which is why a 47mm high-speed cannon was developed for the Type 97. The old towers of the Chi-Ha were then mounted on the hulls of the Type 95 Ha-Go , the armored vehicle thus created was called the Type 4 Ke-Nu. In 1944 100 vehicles were converted.
The tank was designed to support the infantry . There was space for 3 men in the vehicle. It was 2 meters high and just as wide, the air-cooled diesel engine was built by Mitsubishi . The length was 4.3 meters. In addition, it weighed 8.4 tons and was only armored against rifle fire. Its top speed was 40 km / h.
The tank was only developed towards the end of the war in 1944, which corresponds to the year Kōki 2604 and where the type designation comes from. He was involved in the defensive battle against the approaching Americans with moderate success.
