Tyrone Marshall (born November 12, 1974 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican football player on the position of defender . He currently plays for the Colorado Rapids in the top North American division, Major League Soccer .
Career
The beginnings
At the age of twelve, Marshall came with his family from Jamaica to the United States in Fort Lauderdale , Florida . From 1994 to 1996 he attended Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia , where he was able to experience football for the first time. After college, he went to Florida International University in Miami in 1996 , where he was part of the men's soccer team until he left in 1998.
Player career
After a successful stint on the university soccer team, Marshall was selected eleventh in round 1 of the Colorado Rapids in the 1998 MLS College Draft . After only one league assignment, he was given to Miami Fusion in the middle of the season . For Miami he played in a total of 82 league games until they withdrew from gaming after the 2001 season.
In the following MLS Allocation Draft 2002 Marshall was selected by Los Angeles Galaxy , in which he came to 124 championship appearances until his departure in 2007 and also scored four goals. With LA Galaxy he won the championship title ( MLS Cup ) in 2002 and 2005 , and in 2005, as the team with the highest points of the regular season, he was awarded the MLS Supporters' Shield . Also in 2005 they won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup .
In June 2007, he moved in exchange for Edson Buddle to the Canadian MLS club Toronto FC , which had only started playing in the MLS at the beginning of the season. There he completed 40 league games by the time he left.
On February 10, 2009 it was announced that he had been transferred to Seattle Sounders FC .
In January 2011 he was selected by the Colorado Rapids in the MLS Re-Entry Draft .
International
In the Jamaican national team , Marshall has made 59 appearances to date, with two goals. In 2003 and 2005 Marshall was in the Jamaican line-up for the CONCACAF Gold Cup , and Jamaica failed in the quarter-finals in both events. In 2005, Marshall was appointed to the expanded squad of the All-Star Team.
In the qualifications for the 2002 World Cup , 2006 World Cup and the 2010 World Cup , he also came to missions.
