The underground station Vorgartenstraße on the Vienna underground line U1 in the 2nd district of Leopoldstadt was opened on September 3, 1982. It is located directly below Lassallestrasse and extends between Radingerstrasse and Vorgartenstrasse . It is named after Vorgartenstraße, which was named in 1903, and most of the houses from the late founding period have a front garden that is otherwise rather untypical for Vienna .
The station is located directly below the surface, as the U1 crosses the Danube immediately north in an elevated position on the Reichsbrücke . Due to the shallow depth, both side platforms are accessed directly from the surface via separate entrances. In the northeast, the exits lead up to Vorgartenstrasse by means of fixed stairs (i.e. not barrier-free), the southwest exits to Radingerstrasse, where there are also lifts . The bus stops for bus lines 11A and 11B are also at the Vorgartenstraße / Lassallestraße intersection. The bus line 82A crosses Lassallestrasse via Harkortstrasse (southwest parallel to Radingerstrasse). The station is equipped with a public toilet facility. The Vorgartenmarkt, Mexikoplatz and the shipping center on Handelskai are in the immediate vicinity . It is also the closest station for the parts of the northern railway district around Rudolf-Bednar-Park .
