Anjos underground station

Anjos is a metro station on the Linha Verde of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital. The station is located at the intersection of Avenida Almirante Reis / Rua de Angola or Rua Febo Moniz, parallel to the Banco de Portugal building in the municipality of Arroios . The neighboring stations of the train station are Arroios and Intendente . The station went into operation on September 28, 1966.

history

The station was built as part of the Socorro – Anjos extension of what was then the Lisbon metro network, which at the beginning of the sixties consisted only of a kind of Ypsilon (with the two northern endpoints Sete Rios and Entrecampos and the southern endpoint Rossio ). At this time, the districts in the north of Lisbon, around Alvalade, became very important, so that the city administration planned to extend the metro by then. The Socorro – Anjos section went into operation on September 28, 1966; the further extension to the north was opened on June 18, 1972.

Dinis Gomes , who had already designed numerous other metro stations for the city of Lisbon, was responsible for the design of the station . In doing so, he was guided by the standard he had designed himself. The station has a relatively flat, but rounded platform ceiling and two 70 meter long side platforms with an exit to the south. Maria Keil was also responsible for the artistic design at this train station , who made use of her proven tile art. Here, however, they did not use the usual geometric figures , as the administrative board of the Lisbon Metro had asked, but allowed themselves to be carried away to more abstract forms (including wind vortices).

In order to be able to run longer train formations on today's Linha Verde in the future, the operating company of the Lisbon Metro decided to extend all platforms of the line from the 70 meters (four-car train) at that time to 105 meters (six-car train). In the case of the Anjos train station, construction work was completed in 1982. The station was extended to the north under the direction of the architect Sanchez Jorge, and the operating company Rogério Ribeiro commissioned the design of the northern mezzanine. Ribeiro also used tiles, choosing abstract shapes, especially light blue and dark blue circles on a white background. The station has no elevators.
