Arroios is a metro station on the Linha Verde of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital. The station is located at the intersection of Avenida Almirante Reis / Rua José Falcão south of Praça do Chile in the municipality of Arroios . The neighboring stations of the train station are Anjos and Alameda . The station went into operation on June 18, 1972.

history

On June 18, 1972, the Anjos - Alvalade subway section was opened and with it the Arroios station . This section represented the end point of the first construction phase of the Lisbon metro. Within a good fifteen years, the city had connected all important central areas and stations by means of the new metro, the last of which was the Alvalade district , where it was located after the Second World War had developed a new business center.

The Portuguese architect Dinis Gomes was responsible for the construction of the Arroios station , as well as for all other stations in the section . He had a standard scheme for the subway stations so that they all look very similar in their basic form. The station has two 70 meter long side platforms and a relatively flat, rounded platform ceiling as well as exits to the south to Rua Pascoal de Melo and to the north to Praça do Chile . Here, too, the Portuguese Maria Keil was responsible for the design , who also used the tried and tested design element of tiles (azulejos). She designed tiles with yellow-white and yellow-blue stripes that can be seen on the mezzanine floors. The platform walls carry the usual, small, blue mosaic stones.

Since then, not much has changed at the station itself, so that it is now in need of renovation. The Metropolitano de Lisboa, EPE is currently gradually refurbishing all Linha Verde stations and extending the platforms from 70 to 105 meters to increase the capacity of the Linha Verde . The Arroios station is to be renovated soon , after the Alvalade , Roma and Areeiro stations, among others, have already been renovated. Then a retrofitting of an elevator is to be expected, which the station does not have until today.
