Telheiras Metro Station
Telheiras is a metro station on the Linha Verde of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital . The train station is located below a public park on Estrada de Telheiras in the Lisbon municipality of Lumiar . Telheiras station is the northern terminus of Linha Verde , the only neighboring station is Campo Grande ; the station went into operation on November 2, 2002.
history
In order to offer the small district of Telheiras , which is surrounded by highways and administratively part of the municipality of Lumiar , a higher-quality local transport connection, the city of Lisbon decided to extend the Linha Verde , which has ended at the neighboring train station Campo Grande since 1993 , by one station to the west. At the same time, this should represent the first stage of a long-term planned extension of the Linha Verde towards Pontinha .
The construction work for the underground station was completed in October 2002, so that the station went into operation on November 2, 2002. The Portuguese architect Duarte Nuno Simões was responsible for the construction of the station , who designed a semicircular, high platform hall with two 105-meter-long side platforms. Since the train station is located directly under a public park, it was possible to create at least small light inlets. Seven small, pyramid-shaped inlets give the subway station daylight. Eduardo Batarda was responsible for the artistic design; Here he used the traditional tile technique and designed various “open” figures on a blue background, which can be seen at the end of the platform and on the mezzanine. As a new building, the station has both three elevators (from the two platforms to the mezzanine floor, from there to the street surface) as well as side platforms that are designed for six-car compositions. Nevertheless, only four-car trains end up in the station for the time being, as not all of the Linha Verde platforms have been extended to the appropriate minimum length.
The long-term plan is to extend the route from Telheiras station via three intermediate stations (project names are Fernando Namora , Senhora da Luz and Padre Cruz ) to the currently existing Pontinha underground station on the outskirts. It is also planned that the Campo Grande - Telheiras (- Pontinha ) route will be taken over by the Linha Vermelha coming from Lisbon Airport . However, there are still no dates for both projects, as other extensions of the metro network are currently in the foreground.
