Pontinha is a metro station on the Linha Azul of the Lisbon Metro , the metro network of the Portuguese capital . The station is located at the intersection of Estrada Militar à Pontinha and Estrada da Correia on the border between the Lisbon municipality of Carnide and the neighboring suburbs of Amadora and Odivelas . The neighboring stations are Alfornelos and Carnide ; the station went into operation on October 18, 1997.

history

The Pontinha metro station began operations on October 18, 1997 as part of the newly opened Colégio Militar / Luz - Pontinha section . This was the first time in its history that the Lisbon metro had reached the border of the city of Lisbon.

Ana Nascimento was responsible for the design of the station , whose aim was to create a very bright station. The escalators lead from the side platforms directly to the level of the street surface and lead into a large access building in which the access barriers and ticket offices are located. The access building is dominated by glass and glass mosaic stones, so that a lot of light falls on the platform. The platform already received two lifts with the construction.

Jacinto Luís , who was responsible for the artistic accompaniment of the station, made a series of nine paintings, all of which are supposed to show the transience of food. Luís is an avowed supporter of hyperrealism . The transverse walls of the train station, on the other hand, are dominated by colored, oversized lines, the side walls by evenly arranged squares.

Since the station is located on the border between the cities of Lisbon (with its municipality of São Domingos de Benfica ), Amadora and Odivelas , it has become an important traffic point. To the south of the train station there is a larger bus terminal, where numerous bus lines of the regional bus company Rodoviária de Lisboa and Carris stop, so that the densely populated districts, especially in the north of the train station, have a connection to Lisbon. A large park-and-ride car park was created to the west of the station.
