Alto dos Moinhos Metro Station
Alto dos Moinhos is a subway station on the Linha Azul of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital . The station is at the intersection of Avenida da Lusíada and Rua Dr. João de Freitas Branco in the Lisbon municipality of São Domingos de Benfica . The neighboring stations are Laranjeiras and Colégio Militar / Luz ; the station went into operation on October 14, 1988.
history
The Alto dos Moinhos metro station is part of the Sete Rios - Colégio Militar section , which opened in 1988 and whose primary objective was to develop the densely populated Benfica district.
The operating company of the metro commissioned the architect Ezequiel Nicolau to design the station . Though different architects, the three stations opened in 1988 are very similar. All have two 105-meter-long side platforms and a relatively low station ceiling. The exits are not, as usual, at the ends of the platforms, but in the middle. The painter Júlio Pomar was responsible for the artistic design . His idea was to honor four great Portuguese writers, but in line with the urban space in line graffiti style. The authors Camões , Bocage , Pessoa and Almada Negreiros are each sketched in different poses on the white tiles; they appear light and spontaneous.
There have been no major changes since the station opened on October 14, 1988. Equipping with elevator systems is conceivable in the medium term.
