Amadora Este is a metro station on the Linha Azul of the Lisbon Metro , the subway network of the Portuguese capital . The train station is located parallel to Estrada dos Salgados street on Praça São Silveste in the city of Amadora . The subway station was the terminus of the Linha Azul between 2004 and 2016 . The two neighboring stations are Reboleira and Alfornelos .

history

The underground station Amadora Este , in German about "Amadora-Ost", went into operation on May 15, 2004 in connection with the section ( Amadora Este - Pontinha ). The main aim of the extension was to connect the third largest city in Portugal, Amadora , to the network of the Lisbon Metro and thus to offer an alternative to the frequently overloaded Linha de Sintra .

The station design by Leopoldo de Almeida Rosa is basically very similar to the neighboring Alfornelos station and Telheiras station, which opened in 2002 . It basically consists of a large station hall with a slightly rounded ceiling, the mezzanine level with exits to the north and south bisects this hall as a crossbar. Three elevators enable people with reduced mobility to use the station. The painter Graça Morais came up with the design of the station . She saw it as a task to take away any claustrophobia of the passengers and to create a strong association with the above-ground world. For this she used the colors light blue (for the sky) and brown-yellow (for the earth). At the easternmost and westernmost end of the hall there are large natural paintings above the tunnel mouths, which are dominated by line drawings of maple leaves.

The station has not been a terminus since 2016, and the trains now go one stop further to Reboleira underground station .
