history

The Shiloh were commissioned from Bath Iron Works in 1987 . The cruiser was laid down at the Group's shipyard in 1989 and was launched after a construction period of 13 months. The official commissioning of the ship took place in July 1992. The ship is named after the Battle of Shiloh in 1862.

Inserts of Shiloh include Operation Desert Strike , where the ship in 1996, 14 cruise missiles of the type -BGM 109 Tomahawk launched against targets in Iraq, and Operation Iraqi Freedom , also cruise missiles were launched from on board when in July of 2002.

On June 22, 2006, an SM-3 launched aboard the Shiloh and successfully intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Barking Sands , Hawaii . At the end of the year, the cruiser took part in an exercise with the Japanese Navy with the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) . In 2008 the Shiloh moved again with the Kitty Hawk to the West Pacific and took part in a port visit in Hong Kong . In 2009 the Shiloh moved alongside the USS George Washington (CVN-73) in the Pacific. In late March 2010, the cruiser was used to search for survivors on board the Cheonan (PCC-772) . According to official investigations, the South Korean ship was torpedoed off the North Korean coast, and a North Korean submarine is said to have carried out the attack. From June 8 to 12, 2015, the Shiloh took part in the joint Silent Shark maneuver with South Korean naval units .
