The cruiser then moved to the Mediterranean as escort of the USS Saratoga (CV-60) , followed in 1994 in the Caribbean and in 1995 in the Baltic Sea. In 1996 the Philippine Sea moved to the Mediterranean with the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) . In 1999 the ship fired tomahawks at targets in Kosovo, then in 2001 at targets in Afghanistan. In 2003 the ship supported Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom . Further counterterrorism voyages followed in May 2005 and June 2006. In February 2008, the Philippine Sea began laying alongside the USS Nassau (LHA-4) .
