history

The top, which was only partially forested at the time, was called Korunní vrch since the Middle Ages and was located on the old trade route from Jihlava to Pelhřimov , which crossed the Jihlava to Bohemia at Rantířov and continued the saddle to Ježená . The Korunní Vrch at the time was a popular resting place of the carters who had reached his saddle after the steep ascent.

In 1737, the baker Antonín Polesný from Pelhřimov donated one hundred guilders from his father's estate to build a chapel. Nothing is known about the background. According to legend, Polesný is said to have found treasure while resting under a stone. However, it is considered more likely that the baker chose this widely visible place in the middle of fields on the pass, because it was exactly halfway between Pelhřimov and Jamné , where the family lived, and Polesný often traveled this route in his youth. On May 27, 1738, the solemn consecration of the Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua by Vicar Ungar from Pelhřimov and Pastor Leupold from Deutsch Gießhübel . After the chapel, the mountain has been called Antoniberg / Hora Svatého Antonína since the middle of the 18th century .

In the 19th century, the old road over the Antoniberg was thrown off by the new Kaiserstraße, which led through Steindorf . In 1843 a maneuver took place on Antoniberg, during which jumps were built. In 1852, following a collection, the chapel was renovated and re-consecrated. In 1872 the chapel was ravaged by vandals who demolished the furnishings and stole the altarpiece, presumably from the 14th century, by an Austrian artist, a gift from Jihlava pastor Hiltscher. In 1901 and 1908 repairs were carried out on the structure. The old bell had to be removed in 1916 and was melted down for war metal needs. During the Second World War the chapel lost its bell again. The third bell was cast from German guns by the Polák & Hopp company from Jihlava after the end of the war. Another repair took place in 1971. After that, the chapel deteriorated and the plaster fell off the brickwork.

After 1989 the traditional pilgrimages were resumed. During the renovation carried out in 1994, unexpected construction defects came to light and it was found that the original builder had not adhered to his plans. On February 13, 2005 the relics of St. Valentina on display in the chapel. The chapel was rededicated on June 17, 1995.
