action

Hyun-sook is the widowed mother of two daughters and works in a supermarket. When the family is having breakfast together, their youngest daughter Cheon-ji asks for an MP3 player , since every child in her class has one. Hyun-sook is reluctant at first, but decides to buy something for her daughter while at work. Since the selection is so large, she calls her eldest daughter Man-ji, who is supposed to ask which MP3 player Cheon-ji wants. When Man-ji tries to contact Cheon-ji, she does not answer the phone. Shortly thereafter, it is clear that Cheon-ji suicide committed. The family does not find a suicide note.

After the surprise suicide, Hyun-sook decides to move to another apartment with her daughter. At school, Man-ji learns by chance that a classmate of Cheon-ji was wearing her school uniform. Man-ji is skeptical and follows up on her sister's death. She comes across Hwa-yeon, who is said to have been Cheon-ji's best friend. However, Man-ji quickly discovered that Hwa-yeon had always bullied her sister.

The film shows through many flashbacks the relationship between the protagonists and Cheon-ji. Different narrative threads show how guilt feelings develop in the characters. One day when Hyun-sook was crocheting , she found a piece of paper at the end of the wool. This turns out to be her daughter's farewell letter, the first of five. Hyun-sook quickly finds the ball of wool with the note for her daughter Man-ji. Man-ji then starts looking for the remaining three balls of wool. The third finds Mi-ran's sister Mi-ra. The letter is addressed to Hwa-yeon, who previously gave away the ball of yarn. Mi-ra shows her sister's letter when Man-ji suddenly appears. Mi-ra suspects where the fourth letter is, because she too received a ball of wool before Cheon-ji's death. Flashbacks show that Mi-ra became friends with Cheon-ji for a while. However, Mi-ra ended the friendship when she saw Cheon-ji's mother with her father, whereby Mi-ra disagrees with her father's relationship. However, Cheon-ji does not know anything about this relationship and cannot understand Mi-ras behavior.

Looking back, the viewer learns that Hyun-sook was informed about bullying by Hwa-yeon towards her daughter by a teacher and also spoke to Hwa-yeon's mother, who was disinterested in the subject. Hyun-sook has moved to be permanently close to Hwa-yeon and her daughter so that they are constantly confronted with feelings of guilt. Because of this and because of the mood in the school against Hwa-yeon, she ran away from home and no longer comes to school. Man-ji sees Hwa-yeon stealing plates from her family's restaurant. Man-ji follows her and learns that Hwa-yeon wants the restaurant to go bankrupt so the family will move away. Man-ji gives her the letter addressed to her and forgives Hwa-yeon for her sister's sake. She also wants to take care of Hwa-yeon so that she does not suffer the same fate as her sister. The film ends when Man-ji also finds her sister's last ball of yarn.

He praised the work of director Lee Han, which also contributed to the excellent performance of the predominantly female cast.
