Lee Han (also romanized as Yi Han; * 1970 ) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter .
Life
Lee Han studied theater and film at Hanyang University in Seoul . He began his film career as assistant director to Bae Chang-ho for the films Love Story ( 러브 스토리 , 1996) and My Heart ( 정 Jeong , 2000). In 2002 he released his first feature film, Lovers' Concerto . The melodrama is about a love triangle between three friends, played by Cha Tae-hyun , Lee Eun-ju and Son Ye-jin . He then wrote the screenplay for Garden of Heaven (2003) and was part of the writing team for the KBS2 television series Bodyguard .
With his subsequent films, Lee cemented his reputation as a director of modern romance. In 2006 he released Almost Love ( Cheongchun Manhwa 'youth manhwa ') with Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Ha-neul . The Christmas film My Love followed in 2007 .
While he had great success with his love films, the literary adaptation Punch took him to major film festivals, including the 2012 Berlinale . The film is based on Kim Ryŏ-ryŏng's eponymous Bildungsroman , in German as Eins Zwei . One two Three. published. The film is about the young Wandeuk , played by Yoo Ah-in , who comes from a multicultural family. His teacher and neighbor, played by Kim Yoon-seok , is very concerned about Wandeuk's well-being, even if he does not notice this at first and feels it is harassment. The film was highly acclaimed by critics.
In 2014, Lee adapted another bestselling novel by Kim Ryŏ-ryŏng, Uahan Geojitmal . The film was released with the international title Thread of Lies . The film is about the aftermath of a young girl's suicide. Only afterwards did the sister and her mother find out about the circumstances and how the suicide occurred. The film received positive reviews and was recognized for its almost all female cast, starring Kim Hee-ae , Kim Hyang-gi , Ko Ah-sung , Kim Yoo-jung, and Chun Woo-hee .
